Hosted by Anna Della Croce Brigante Colonna, Italian Ambassador to Sweden, the guests heard presentations from Giordano Lombardo, Deputy CEO and Mats Langensjo Head of Institutional Business, Nordic Region and Robert Wescott, Principal of Keybridge Research and a former economic adviser to President Clinton. Giordano Lombardo considered Pioneer Investments’ journey from an internal bank asset manager in the 1990s to a global Institutional and Third Party player and Mats Langensjo remarked on the relevance of this experience to the current trends in Sweden. Examining key trends in the asset management industry, Lombardo also identified the important need for effective and customisable default solutions for Defined Contribution pension arrangements. He described some of the research programmes Pioneer Investments has been undertaking in this area in conjunction with experts such as Nobel Prize winner, Joseph Stiglitz and Harvard Behavioural Investment expert, David Laibson. Robert Wescott gave an overview of the world economy and financial markets in 2008. He took a particular look at the US in this election year, both in terms of the economic slowdown and the Decoupling Debate. Finally he looked at investment opportunities against the backdrop he painted, identifying some risks to avoid and new opportunities. Mats Langesjo explained that bringing Robert Wescott to such an event typifies Pioneer Investments desire to further debate on key challenges facing the industry. In the Nordic markets there will be a series of events for our partners, institutions and their clients. The next event will be in May when Pioneer Investments will bring Behavioural Investment expert, David Laibson, to Stockholm and Copenhagen for seminars on “How to Protect Investors from Themselves”.
